Privacy Policy
The short version: Viron uses your location once to find your circle, shows other people only a blurred version of it, deletes posts within 24 hours, has no ads, and does not sell your data.
Who we are
Viron ("we", "us") runs the Viron mobile app and this website. Questions about this policy: privacy@viron.live.
What we collect
| Data | Why | Who can see it |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, and name from Google or Apple sign-in | Create and secure your account; prefill your profile | Only you and us. Apple may give us a private relay address. |
| Profile: display name, handle | Show who posted in your circle | Members of your circle |
| Precise location, once, when you set your home | Place you in the nearest circle of about 4,096 people | Stored privately. Never shown to other users. |
| Blurred home point | Show rounded distances such as "400 m away" | Moved by about 300 m and rounded to 50 m before anyone sees a distance |
| Content you post: pins, events, discussions, replies, votes, stories, reactions, chat messages | Run the app | Your circle (event location and chat: only the host and guests the host picks). Pin locations are randomly moved up to 200 m (fuzzy) or 600 m (area) before they are stored. |
| Photos you choose to add to a story | Show your story | Your circle, for 24 hours. We only access photos you pick; we never access your camera or microphone. |
| Reports, blocks and vouches | Keep the community safe | Our moderators |
| Technical data: app version, device type, IP address, crash and error logs | Keep the service running and secure | Us and our hosting providers |
What we do not do
- We do not show ads and we do not sell or rent your personal information.
- We do not use your data for advertising or build advertising profiles.
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app.
- We do not share your precise location with other users.
How long we keep things
- Pins, events, discussions, feed posts and stories are removed within 24 hours of posting. A database rule makes a longer life impossible.
- Event chats close 12 hours after the event starts.
- Your account data (email, profile, private home location) is kept until you delete your account.
- Safety records (for example, a report against a message) may be kept for a limited period after you leave where needed to protect other users or meet legal duties.
Who we share data with
We use service providers who process data on our behalf, only to run Viron:
- Supabase — database, authentication and file storage.
- Google and Apple — if you choose to sign in with them.
- OpenFreeMap / map tile provider — your device requests map tiles, so the provider sees your IP address and the area being viewed.
- Email delivery provider — to send sign-in codes.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect someone's safety.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account and data at any time: see Delete your account.
- Location: you can turn off location permission in your phone's settings. Without it you can't set your home, so you can't join a circle.
- Access, correct or export your data: email privacy@viron.live.
- Depending on where you live (for example, the UK and EU under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have additional rights, including to object to or restrict processing and to complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Viron is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe a child is using Viron, email safety@viron.live and we will remove the account.
Security
Privacy rules (who can see what) are enforced in the database, not only in the app. Data is encrypted in transit. Staff access to the admin dashboard requires two-step sign-in and every action is logged. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required we use appropriate safeguards.
Changes
If we make material changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
